The vision to open a multi-purpose space containing both a salon and art gallery brought together two of the passions of owner Blake Elliot Henschel. Inspired by the art galleries of New York, Blake sought to bring that experience to the heart of Deland. The ambiance of Blake Elliot Salon and Gallery reflects many facets of Blake’s personality - attention to details, an appreciation of aesthetics, and a love of community.
Blake has been a stylist in the DeLand area for over 11 years. As a Stetson University graduate, Blake applies his studies in fine art to his daily work in the salon. The opening of Blake Elliot Salon and Gallery has created a unique way to combine his two passions. Thinking of his salon’s location on Artisan Alley, Blake says, “When I wasn’t at work, I always found myself spending time downtown, so what better place to start my business?"
As a boy, Blake grew up in a salon as both his father and uncle were hair stylists and salon owners. A master stylist and colorist, Blake helps each client achieve their best look. He also curates the revolving gallery exhibits that feature contemporary works by local artists.
Growing up in a military family, Haley lived in many different locales across the globe including Japan, Seattle, Washington, DC, and Georgia before settling in DeLand. Her mother owned La Petite Botanica in downtown DeLand, where Haley worked. She attended cosmetology school shortly after the opening of DeLand’s Wolfe Gallery, where she continued on as manager throughout her training as a stylist.
Beginning in 2003, she worked at St. John’s Club for a span of eleven years before joining Blake at his new salon in the fall of 2015. Haley is certified as a master colorist and for keratin treatments. She specializes in multidimensional color and textured cuts.
